Bottle vs. Sipee

I have a little dilema that I need your expertise and opinionsin the area of bottles and sipee cups. My precious little boy hates both...and wont really entertain the idea of either one. However, after reading my earlier post, you know that the inevitable is coming and one of them (or another option) is in the very near future...aka: this Friday. He is doing quite well on taking jar food.
So, a little picture of him to help you: he sees my beverages and gets excited, and even drinks from my cups and straw-fulls. But when he sees a bottle, he immediatly straightens his arms and almost begins to fuss before I even give it to him. As far as sipee cups go, he will bite on it, suck once, then push is around his tray until it falls on the ground. I have tried to sit down with him in every type of chair, setting, beverage, etc., and I am out of ideas. Friday is coming and I need help. Rescue me!

Blaine and I had to take drastic measures to wing Joel...he took Joel and went to his parents house for the weekend. It worked pretty well...out of sight out of mind for him and I endured engourgemnent without children hanging all over me :) When he got back I nursed him once a day right before bed and then over a couple of weeks time eliminated that too. I think sippys are better to wing too, simply because you don't have to wing again from the bottle. Especially if he doesn't have a preference. Hope that helps some...it's all I've got :)

Hey Robin, that can be hard. Here's my two cents worth :) I would say that if he takes a cup or a straw, feed him from that. Every baby is different and every baby adjust differently to receiving liquids (not from the breast), some get the hang of it right away and some don't. Neither of my boys could drink from a sipee for several months after I had wheaned them. I honestly think whatever your poor little guy is comfortable with is the best option. And don't fret if he wont take anything because if he gets hungry enough (and he will at some point, it might take a couple days to get him used to the idea), he will drink. I figure whatever option is getting him the most liquids is what I will give my baby. Eamon has just started using a sipee in the last couple of months, but if he doesn't get it, he doesn't get it! Good luck Robin! You're a great mom and I'm sure you will do what's best for your little man! :)

Here are my two cents as well...I know that I am not a mom yet, but I have grown up around all of this...I even know what the Le Leche' League is! : )I strongly dissagree w/switching to solids 100% Purely for convenience and comfort. Medically speaking, children who are introduced to foods at early ages tend to be the kids who develope fd allergies...I highly recommend speaking with my mom, she has coached hundred's of women though similar situations. I know that she would keep you and Ethen's very best interest at heart. Sometimes the advise dr's give is self-serving, or simply a lack of knowledge in the "grey area" type questions. Mom would be able to tell you exactly what to do and why, she would be giving you advise based on what is best for Ethen now,as well as down the road 20 years. Hope this helps a little. I feel funny being so stinking opinionated about this and I don't even have any babies of my own, yet! : ) I love you

The sippee thing does take awhile but he will get the hang of it. You can go either way or do both. Have you tried different kinds of nipples? I know with both of my kids we had to experiment with nipples. I introduced the bottle to both of them after the first month. I had to do it with Lexi becasue of her being so small and and it took me awhile to get her nursing well. From that experience I knew that I wanted my kids to take both so have given atleast a bottle a week when they were really young and then once a day as they were around 4 months.
